A mother and her 4-year-old child was hurt after their SUV crashed into the Maternity B.V.M. School in the Bustleton section of Northeast Philadelphia Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 3:30 at the K-through-8 school on the 9200 block of Bustleton Avenue.

For some reason the 31-year-old driver lost control of her SUV and crashed into a classroom. Her 4-year-old child was also in the car.

Both were taken to the hospital as a precaution but appeared to be OK, authorities said.

An eighth grader in the classroom at the time of the crash was unhurt, police said.

There was also no word on what caused the wreck.

The school was already supposed to be closed to students Friday for parent-teacher conferences but after the crash, officials decided to cancel all activities at the school Friday.
