  • Coastal Flood Advisory

    Ocean, NJ

    Eastern Monmouth-Coastal Ocean-
    1233 PM EDT Tue Sep 25 2018

...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING...
...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM EDT THIS
    AFTERNOON...

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a High Rip
Current Risk, which is in effect until 9 PM EDT this evening.

    * LOCATIONS...Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean Counties.

    * TIMING...Minor coastal flooding is expected with the high tide
this morning which occurs between 8 and 9 AM on the
oceanfront. High tide on the back bays and along Raritan Bay
occurs later than the high tide on the oceanfront.

    * COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Up to one half foot of saltwater
inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas
near shorelines and tidal waterways. Minor roadway flooding is
possible on Long Beach Island, Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant
Beach and other locations near Barnegat Bay. Minor roadway
flooding is possible for coastal locations in Monmouth County.

    * SURF ZONE IMPACTS...A high risk of rip currents means
dangerous and potentially life threatening conditions exist
for all people entering the surf. People visiting the beaches
should stay out of the high surf.

    * WAVES...5 to 8 feet on the ocean front.

    * RIP CURRENT RISK...

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor Tidal flooding often results in some road
closures. Usually...the most vulnerable roadways will flood.

Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged...leading to
    costly repairs.

Visit the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service at
water.weather.gov/ahps for additional water level and flood
impact information for your local tide gauge.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

Time of high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour.
