Traffic Delays May Dent Your Weekend

If you plan on traveling I-76 this weekend, make sure you leave yourself plenty of time.  Construction may put a dent in your plans.

I-76 west will be down to a single lane at University Ave (Exit 346B) from 8pm Friday to 6pm Saturday, November 22.

Construction crews will be placing a new concrete surface on the adjoining bridges that hold I-76 over the Schuylkill River, CSX railroad tracks, Grays Ferry Ave and 34th Street, PennDOT said.

I-76, both eastbound and westbound, will be down to a single lane at University Ave (Exit 346B) from 9pm Saturday to 5am Sunday, as well.

Construction crews will be replacing barriers on the roadway.

Remember, if you want to avoid traffic due to this roadwork, you can take an alternate route or public transportation.

  • Alternate 1:
Take I-95 to I-676, which will take you to I-76 in Philadelphia
  • Alternate 2:
Follow I-95 to I-476 North to get to I-76 in Montgomery County

The good news: This is expected to be the last weekend this year I-76 will be reduced to one lane.

But, expect more weekend construction in 2009.

This roadwork is part of PennDOT’s $24 million project to rehabilitate and repair the two bridges.
