The first medals at the Tokyo Olympics in weightlifting were awarded early Saturday morning in the womenβs 49 kg/108 lb class.
Hou Zhihui won gold with a total score of 210. Zhihui lifted an Olympic record 116 kg in the clean and jerk and a total of 210 kg, which is also a new Olympic record.
American Jourdan Delacruz missed all three of her Clean and Jerk attempts at 108g eliminating her from the competition.
Delacruz started off strong, nailing her 83kg opening Snatch early on in the competition.
She completed her second Snatch attempt at 86 kg but her last Snatch was ruled a no lift on a two-to-one decision from the judges and upheld after a challenge by the jury due to press out.Β .

India's Saikhom Mirabai Chanu took home silver and Indonesia's Windy Cantika Aisah won bronze to cap off an all-Asian podium on Day 1 of women's weightlifting.
