Birds Place Peters, Patterson on Injury List

Eagles place 2 big names both recovery from surgeries on Reserve/Non-Football Injury list

The Eagles reduced their roster to a league-mandated 75 players Monday by placing two former starters on injured reserve and making two other moves.

Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters who is recovering from Achilles surgery and defensive tackle Mike Patterson who is recovering from brain surgery were placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list.

By placing Peters and Patterson on the non-football injury list they allow both players time to recover from their surgeries and get cleared to practice. Both Players have between Weeks 6 and 9 to return to practice, the team says.

Peters is a long shot but it’s possible Patterson heals enough by mid-season to return to the field.

The Eagles also moved guard Mike Gibson to the Injured Reserve with a minor hip flexor injury and the waived wide receiver Jamel Hamler.

The rest of the guys on the Eagles roster bubble including WR Chad Hall, P Chas Henry, RB Chris Polk and DT Cedric Thornton will find out their fates by 9 p.m. Friday when all NFL teams must reduce their rosters to 53 players.
