Roob's Observations: Late magic from Saquon caps off statement win in Baltimore

Reuben Frank and Ron Jaworski share their instant analysis following the Eagles’ 24-19 win over the Ravens in Week 13.
The fourth quarter once again was magic for Saquon Barkley and the Eagles, and if the Ravens and their No. 1 run defense can’t stop him, who can?
Nobody can.
Nobody had rushed for more than 63 yards against the Ravens this year and Barkley did it in the last 12 minutes.
The Eagles keep winning and after this statement in Baltimore against a very good Ravens team, I’m not sure when they’ll lose again.

While it's difficult to overlook the slow starts — it's hard to have any doubt in this team with Saquon Barkley. Seriously. Every week when the Eagles need to move the needle, Barkley comes through with *the* moment of the game.
He cannot be stopped.

Eagles' Reed Blankenship out for 4th quarter vs. Ravens with concussion
By Dave Zangaro

Vic Fangio spoke to the media on Wednesday afternoon and was asked about the loss of veteran edge rusher Brandon Graham and how the Eagles will attempt to replace him.
BALTIMORE — Eagles safety Reed Blankenship left the third quarter against the Ravens with a concussion and has been ruled out.
Blankenship got hurt on a deep ball intended for Nelson Agholor. After a visit to the blue medical tent, Blankenship left for the locker room and will not return.
Blankenship has been replaced by Tristin McCollum. During the week, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was asked why McCollum is ahead of Sydney Brown on the depth chart.
“Tristin has had the most reps going all the way back to training camp,” Fangio said. “I believe he's more ready to play.”
We've got a close one heading into the final frame
By NBC Sports Philadelphia Staff

The offense stalled on both sides in the third quarter.
The Eagles only had six snaps for three yards.
On the other hand, the Ravens had their chances, but Justin Tucker missed two field goals in the quarter.
BALTIMORE — The Eagles’ offense got off to another slow start but they began to figure it out and take a 14-12 lead into halftime.
After punts on their first four drives of the game, the Eagles scored touchdowns on their final two drives of the half. They first scored on a short field after a defensive stop and then drove down the field 68 yards for a score.
The Eagles’ defense has also slowed down the Ravens. After giving up a field goal and touchdown to start the game, Vic Fangio’s unit forced three straight 3-and-outs before giving up a field goal on the Ravens’ final drive of the half.
This is a close game so far.
First half yards:

C.J. Gardner-Johnson was seen on the sideline talking to the defense during the first quarter, and ever since, the defense has really locked in. After a punt that placed the Ravens on their own 1-yard line, they forced a three-and-out, putting the Eagles in good field position.
The drive ended with Dallas Goedert tiptoeing in the end zone to get the Eagles on the board.

The Ravens game into this game with the best red zone offense in the NFL over the past three weeks, going a perfect 8-for-8. After Jalen Carter had a huge tackle for loss on second down, the Eagles held them to a field goal.

An early emerging theme is the amount of time the Eagles' defense is giving Lamar Jackson. When one of the top MVP candidates of the season has all day to survey the field, it's almost guaranteed it'll work in their favor. Jackson found Mark Jackson in a sea of Eagles for the first touchdown of the day.
Mark Andrews! Strong hands.

NFL Week 13 winners and losers: Russell Wilson cooks, Eagles beat Ravens
By Logan Reardon and Sanjesh Singh

Catch up on the latest stats and scores from Week 13 of NFL Sunday.
With the calendar flipped to December, the 2024 NFL regular season is slowly winding down.
The first Sunday after Thanksgiving saw plenty of action across the league. Division races are heating up, playoff spots are being claimed and others are jockeying for draft position.
Here are the winners and losers from the Sunday action of Week 13:
The dream season continued for Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Brandon Graham might be out for the season after tearing his triceps in Week 12 against the Rams but that won't stop him from continuing what he does best — being a leader.
Graham led the defensive huddle pregame at M&T Stadium before Eagles-Ravens.
You already know who wanted to break down the defense today... Brandon Graham 🥹😤 pic.twitter.com/MVmEExx7wa

It's enough to make anyone watching want to run through a wall. I can only imagine the energy in the huddle is something similar, if not more.

Torrey Smith talks with John Clark on the latest episode of the Takeoff podcast about the Eagles-Ravens matchup and if the Eagles can slow down Lamar Jackson.
BALTIMORE — The Eagles will be without star receiver DeVonta Smith on Sunday against the Ravens.
Smith, 26, will miss his second consecutive game because of a hamstring injury. Smith returned to practice in a limited fashion on Thursday and Friday this week but was unable to return.
While Smith had been pushing to play and even did some light warmups on Sunday, the Eagles are holding him back for another week with a soft tissue injury.
Here’s the full list of Eagles’ inactives:

The Eagles made a flurry of roster moves on Saturday afternoon as they prepare to face the Ravens in Baltimore on Sunday afternoon.
Here’s a complete recap:
• LB/FB Ben VanSumeren placed on Injured Reserve
• WR Parris Campbell signed to 53-man roster

Each week during the 2024 season, we’re going through the Eagles media guide to find an interesting nugget.
The Eagles’ PR interns do a great job filling out these little oddities in the media guide and they serve as a good way to meet the players behind the helmets.
This week we chatted with rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean, whose little known fact is, “His hometown has zero stoplights — only stop signs and yield signs.” DeJean is from Odebolt, Iowa.

Eagles at Ravens predictions for Week 13 of the NFL season
By NBC Sports Philadelphia Staff

The Eagles (9-2) are on the road to face the Ravens (8-4) on Sunday afternoon.
Let’s get to the predictions:
Reuben Frank (6-5)
This is one of the more intriguing matchups in recent Eagles history. The Ravens and Eagles both have multi-dimensional quarterbacks who are playing at an elite level, they both have world-class running backs, they both have coaches who’ve won well over 60 percent of their games and have been to a Super Bowl (and coached with the Eagles), they both have top-3 offenses, neither has allowed a 100-yard rusher and both look like legit Super Bowl contenders. And both just won a game at SoFi Stadium last weekend. It doesn’t get any better than this, but I’m going with the Ravens just because I think the Eagles could very well win their last five games – Panthers and Steelers home, at Washington, then Cowboys and Giants home – and nobody really ever wins 13 games in a row — there’ve only been 11 13-game winning streaks within one season in NFL history — and I just think the math says at some point the Eagles are going to lose a football game. Pretty stupid reason to pick against them? Maybe. But the Ravens are really, really good and they rarely lose at home – they’re 97-38 in 17 years under Harbs. Only the Packers at Lambeau have a better home record since 2008. The Eagles’ formula of running 45 times a game and throwing 22 times will work against almost anybody, but I’m not sure it works against the Ravens. The only thing I’m sure about is this one will be close.
Eagles notebook: A.J. Brown making the most of his opportunities
By Dave Zangaro

A.J. Brown isn’t surprised about the Eagles’ run-pass disparity this season, especially since the bye week.
Why not?
“Because what we have in the backfield is rare,” Brown explained.
Saquon Barkley is an MVP candidate this year and he’s running behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. That means fewer throws and fewer targets for Brown.
In Roob's Eagles Observations: How Jalen Hurts is responding to a new role
By Reuben Frank

Kellen Moore was asked about the Ravens defense on Wednesday. Dave Zangaro and Reuben Frank discuss the potential for the Eagles offensive coordinator to rely more on the passing game than in weeks past.
How the Eagles’ run-first offense is bringing out the best in Jalen Hurts, an underrated guy on the defense and an all-time Eagle that Jalen Carter reminds me of.
It’s Thanksgiving Week but more importantly it’s Eagles-Ravens Week, and we’ve got a fresh helping of Roob’s Random Eagles Observations for your reading enjoyment.
1. The Eagles have never had a winning streak quite like this. Where the quarterback hasn’t been asked to carry the team. At least not since 1949. That was 75 years ago and it’s the last time the Eagles won seven games in a row without the QB throwing 30 passes in any of those wins. In the 1949 NFL Championship season, the Eagles won eight straight after an 0-1-1 start, and quarterback Tommy Thompson never threw more than 24 passes during that span. Things have changed a bit since then. Hurts threw 34 and 38 passes in the Eagles’ first two wins this year, but since the Eagles truly committed to being a run-first team, he’s averaged only 21 pass attempts per game. That’s the lowest figure during an Eagles winning streak since Thompson averaged 17.6 back in 1949. For the sake of comparison, when the Eagles won eight straight in 2022, Hurts averaged 30 passes per game. Carson Wentz averaged 30 pass attempts during the Eagles’ nine-game winning streak in 2017, Donovan McNabb averaged 35 passes during a seven-game winning streak in 2004 and Jaws was at 25 per game during an eight-game streak in 1980. Hurts isn’t being asked to carry the offense, but when he has thrown the football, he’s been terrific. Big throws at big moments, deep balls at a higher clip than any other NFL quarterback, running to move the sticks at the right time, avoiding mistakes and letting Saquon Barkley and the ground attack take over. During the seven-game winning streak, Hurts has a 116.6 passer rating – 3rd-highest in the league behind Lamar Jackson, the Eagles’ opponent Sunday, and Jared Goff. He’s completing 70 percent of his passes with nine TDs and one INT. The only Eagles QBs with higher passer ratings over any seven-game span are Nick Foles in 2013 and Hurts himself in 2022. But it wouldn’t be fair to say he’s just managing games. He's thrown seven 40-yard passes during that span, 3rd-most in the league, and he’s averaging 8.3 yards per attempt, 4th-highest in the league. So he’s been aggressive, efficient and productive without a high volume of pass attempts. If that’s not a formula for winning, I don’t know what is.
2. Saquon Barkley played 87 games for the Giants, and he’s played 11 games for the Eagles. He had 145 or more rushing yards five times with the Giants. He has 145 or more rushing yards five times with the Eagles.
How to watch Eagles go for 8th straight win in showdown vs. Ravens
By Eric Mullin

Kellen Moore was asked about the Ravens defense on Wednesday. Dave Zangaro and Reuben Frank discuss the potential for the Eagles offensive coordinator to rely more on the passing game than in weeks past.
It's a battle of Super Bowl -- and NFL MVP -- contenders.
Saquon Barkley and the red-hot Philadelphia Eagles (9-2) will visit Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens (8-4) for a heavyweight showdown in NFL Week 13.
Only the NFC-leading Detroit Lions enter Week 13 riding a longer winning streak than the Eagles, who have ripped off seven straight victories. Barkley and the Eagles' defense again led the way in Philadelphia's latest victory, a 37-20 road win over the Los Angeles Rams. Barkley racked up a whopping 302 scrimmage yards, breaking multiple Eagles records and vaulting himself into the MVP conversation in the process.
But, in order to extend their winning streak to eight, Barkley and Co. will have to go through a title contender who's also led by an MVP candidate.
