‘Thank You Philadelphia': Marlins' Jean Segura Writes Parting Letter to Phillies Fans

Segura writes parting thank you letter to Phillies fans originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

Jean Segura is no longer a Philadelphia Phillie, but he clearly had a great time during his four seasons with the organization and he wanted to make sure fans knew he appreciated every moment.

Segura took to Instagram on Wednesday to formally thank Phillies fans and the organization for his time in Philly. Here's the post:

And here's his message:

"Thank you Philadelphia, to the organization and especially to the fans for the support for 4 years, you will always have a place in my heart.

"Thank you for living with me the dream of being in a postseason and reaching a world series. God bless you.

"Thanks to the @marlins for the opportunity. Let's go to the mambo."

Segura, who turns 33 before next season begins, came over from the Mariners in 2019 in exchange for J.P. Crawford and Carlos Santana. He spent four years with the Phillies, hitting .281 with a .755 OPS across 427 games. He hit 43 home runs, drove in 176 RBI, and scored 228 runs as a member of the Fightins while providing elite defense. Fangraphs ranked Segura second among all shortstops in 2019 and second among all second basemen in 2021.

Segura, of course, is being replaced by Bryson Stott in the infield while splashy free agent signing Trea Turner takes over at shortstop.

It's gonna be very weird to see Segura in a Marlins uniform this season after his extended time with the Phils, but that's baseball. He signed a two-year deal and is reportedly expected to be their Opening Day third baseman.

If you're a Phillies fan eager to serenade Segura for his four years in Philly, you won't have to wait long: the Marlins come to town April 10, 11, and 12 for the second home series of the season - and the first Dollar Dog Night of the 2023 slate.
