Sixto Sanchez shows flashes of greatness in season debut

All aboard the Sixto Sanchez hype train.

Sanchez is a consensus top-25 prospect and, while he didn't have the start to the season that he would have liked, he showed flashes of what Phillies fans hope will make him a top-of-the-line starting pitcher in a few years.

Signed in 2015 out of the Dominican Republic, Sanchez will turn 20 in three months and already has more than 175 innings of minor league baseball under his belt. Last season he spent most of the year with Lakewood and posted a 2.41 ERA over 67.1 innings with 64 strikeouts and just nine walks. He was called up to finish the season with Clearwater where he posted a 4.55 ERA over 27.2 innings.

This season, Sanchez started the year back in Clearwater where he made his first start of the season on Sunday against Bradenton where he, surprisingly, allowed four runs on seven hits with four walks in four innings. For many top prospects, however, sometimes it's not all about the numbers in the minor leagues, it's what flashes of ability you can show. Sanchez did just that in this video tweeted out by Baseball Prospectus' Jason Woodell.

He'll look to build off his sour overall performance today and have a big year that could set him up for a potential look at the major leagues sometime next season.
