How a J.C. Penny Catalogue Made Dallas Goedert a Unicyclist

Move over, Jason Kelce. If the Eagles win a Super Bowl, they have a new star attraction for the championship parade.

Dallas Goedert can ride a unicycle.

Not only can he ride a unicycle, he's been doing it for years. And the Eagles' second-round pick is already quite a showman around his small hometown of Britton, South Dakota. He can even ride a six-foot unicycle.

So how did this all start?

"I was looking through the J.C. Penny catalogue one day, the Christmas catalogue, to pick one and I saw a unicycle and I told my mom I want one," the 23-year-old said Saturday afternoon during his introductory press conference in Philly.

"And she was like, ‘well, your grandpa has a bunch of unicycles. We used to ride them all the time.' I said, well, can we go get one. Let's do it. I learned how. I have three other cousins who know how to and we ride in parades and centennials, 125th, 4th of July parades in small towns around Britton. And it was kind of one of the biggest attractions in the parade. People love seeing it."

Goedert said he hasn't talked to the Eagles too much about his unique hobby, but he thinks it might be a conversation they have later. It doesn't exactly seem to safe to have your second-round pick riding around on a one-wheeled vehicle. Then again, last year's rookie Mack Hollins rides his bike to the NovaCare Complex every day, which might not be any safer on the streets of South Philadelphia.

And besides, maybe the unicycle has actually helped Goedert on the football field.

"I think it helps with the balance for sure," he said. "If you get hit in the legs, you're able to contort your body to stay upright. I think the balance definitely plays a big factor."
