Eagles Cut French Wide Receiver Anthony Mahoungou, Have 1 Open Roster Spot

The Eagles lost a little international flair by waiving French wide receiver Anthony Mahoungou on Monday evening.

Mahoungou, 24, is from Paris but played college football at Purdue. He didn't come to the United States until he went to junior college.

He signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent this spring and showed some good things during his few months with the team.

For starters, Mahoungou is 6-3 and 210 pounds. He didn't put up eye-popping numbers at Purdue but he seemed to be a decent undrafted pickup.

"It's not a pressure. It's more a sense of pride," Mahoungou said earlier this summer about being the only French player in the NFL. "I want to make sure that because I'm the only French guy in the league and I was the only French guy in D-I in college, I have to show my best. It's that simple. You never know, if I do wrong, it might close a door for people in the future. It's just a chip on my shoulder that I carry with a big smile. It's not bad pressure. I just have that chip on my shoulder."

While he played minimally his first two years at Purdue, he had a breakout season in 2017, catching 40 passes for 688 yards and eight touchdowns. He averaged 17.2 yards per reception.

Mahoungou played this preseason but didn't catch a pass.
