Oswalt Struggles as Phils Drop to Yanks

Righty gives up 2 homers as Phillies lose to Yankees 7-1

One of the Phillies aces didn’t seem to have his best stuff Monday afternoon against the Yankees.

Roy Oswalt lasted just 2 2/3 innings while giving up five runs (three earned) in his second Spring Training start. The veteran righty allowed four hits including two homers.

The Phillies didn’t get much relief from Vance Worley who gave up two earned runs, five hits and a walk in two innings of work.

Add the rough start by Oswalt to continuing struggles from the offense and the Phils dropped 7-1 to the Yanks.

Yankees starter A.J. Burnett looked sharp giving up no hits and walking none in three scoreless innings.

The Phils didn’t get on the board until the top of the sixth when Wilson Valdez hit his first spring homer.

They will try to straighten things out when the split squad faces the Orioles in Clearwater Tuesday.
