Flyers Comeback, Still Lose

Flyers lose to Senators 7-4

The Fly Guys used a flurry of second-period goals to even it with the Ottawa Senators before falling apart again in the third period in a 7-4 loss Sunday.

The Flyers were losing 4-1 after the first period. The fallout of a poor showing from starting goalie Michael Leighton who was pulled after allowing two goals on his first five shots faced and from backup Brian Boucher who didn’t fair much better giving up two more goals.

The only bright spot in the first was a power play goal from Ian Laperriere.

The second-period comeback included a goal by Arron Asham and power play goals from Darroll Powe and Mike Richards.

But, Sens winger Alex Kovalev was too much for Philly to handle. He broke a lengthy scoring slump with four goals and added an assist for Ottawa.

Senators starting goalie Pascal Leclaire allowed three goals on 10 shots before making way midway through the game for Brian Elliott.

"It was a weird game all around," said Boucher, who took the loss after giving up five goals on 26 shots. "Both of the starting goalies get pulled and we battle back, then unfortunately, they got the better of us in the third. I can't explain really what happened out there."

Chris Kelly had his first career two-goal game for the Senators, who won for the second straight game and fourth time in five contests. Jarkko Ruutu added a goal and an assist.

The loss was the Flyers second-straight. They dropped the Winter Classic to the Bruins on New Years Day.
