NJ School Elections

Dozens of communities voting on school budgets and school boards on Tuesday

It's election day in some New Jersey communities -- but not as many as in years past.

Voters in 73 school districts go to the polls Tuesday to decide school budgets and elect school board members.

The annual April school election, though, is quickly becoming a relic of the past.

Under a new state law, districts can avoid an up-or-down public vote on their spending plans by moving their elections to November. More than 400 districts have already made the change.

Poll hours vary by district in the places where the elections are still being held.
