Chester County Commissioner Running for Gerlach's Seat

A Chester County official is declaring his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the 6th Congressional District seat held by Rep. Jim Gerlach in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Ryan Costello, chairman of the Chester County Commissioners, made the announcement Wednesday.

The 37-year-old Costello is a Phoenixville lawyer who lives in West Chester.

Chester County Republican Party Chairman Val DiGiorgio had considered running but now says he supports Costello.

Gerlach, a Republican, said last week he won't seek re-election and plans to retire at the end of his sixth term next January.

At least three Democrats are interested in running. Chester County businessman Mike Parrish has launched his campaign. Dr. Manan Trivedi, a physician who ran for the seat in 2010 and 2012, and state Rep. Mark Rozzi are considering running.
