Bobsled pilot Steven Holcomb and his team notched the final U.S. medal of the Olympic Games -- a bronze in Sunday's four-man race. The medal comes just days after Holcomb and his teammate Steve Langton won a bronze in the two-man race, becoming the first Americans to crack the top three in that event since 1952.

American teenager Mikaela Shiffrin won Olympic gold in the Olympic slalom on Friday while fighting the effects of a cold. At 18, Shiffrin is the youngest Olympic slalom champion. She would also be the first American women's slalom champion in 42 years, since Barbara Cochran won at the 1972 Sapporo Olympics.

Matt Antoine of Prairie du Chien, Wis., won the first skeleton medal for the U.S. since Jimmy Shea's gold in 2002. Antoine won bronze on day eight of the games.

Joss Christensen, Gus Kenworthy and Nicholas Goepper gave the U.S. a slopestyle skiing sweep Thursday on the last Sochi event to be held on the challenging Extreme Park course. Christensen took the gold with a score of 95.80 on his first of two runs, which was good enough to carry him to the top of the podium. Silver went to Kenworthy, following a big recovery in his second run, which earned him a 93.60.

Kearney, 27, had been the gold-medal favorite heading into the moguls competition, but she was given stiff competition by a trio of Canadian sisters on skis — two of which finished first and second place.
