North Korea has no interest in Iran-like negotiations with the U.S. on its nuclear program, according to a statement issued Tuesday by the country's foreign ministry, NBC News reported.
The statement referred to North Korea's nuclear capabilities as an "essential deterrence" against what is viewed as a hostile U.S. foreign policy toward the isolated country.
North Korea is currently affected by sanctions from the United States, European Union and the United Nations for its ongoing nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
The United States and five world powers struck an historic deal with Iran last week that will limit Iran's nuclear capabilities in exchange for sanctions relief.
