Al-Jazeera Cameraman Killed in Eastern Libya

A cameraman for Al-Jazeera was killed in an ambush yesterday in the Libyan city of Benghazi, the Arabic-language news network said. Ali Hassan al-Jaber was killed when he and a correspondent were ambushed after returning from an assignment in the rebel-held city; the correspondent was wounded and hospitalized. Al-Jaber became the first journalist to be killed since the start of the Libyan conflict. Al-Jazeera didn’t say who was to blame for the killing, The Guardian reported. The network’s director general commented about the loss: "We are determined to carry on regardless. We cannot sacrifice our lives except for noble cause. There is no nobler cause than the pursuit of truth."
