House Votes to Hold Ex-IRS Official in Contempt

House Republicans voted Wednesday to hold former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify about the agency's targeting of conservative nonprofit groups for audits, NBC News reported. The 231-187 vote comes two months after Lerner invoked her Fifth Amendment right at House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearings on IRS targeting of conservative groups. Democrats called the contempt charge a partisan ploy to keep the story alive in an election year.
