The country's longest standing roadside attraction will be celebrating a birthday this weekend, and you're invited!
Lucy the Elephant, a National Historic Landmark, will turn 134 on Saturday, July 18. There will be a carnival-themed party will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m, with a rain date scheduled for Sunday.
Lucy's "Birthday on the Boardwalk" will feature many of the same fun-filled games from last year's party, but with more prizes and new additions.
And what carnival wouldn't be complete without a huge variety of food? Fresh-roasted Jersey corn-on-the-cob highlights the birthday fare, which includes Philly Pretzels, hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy and birthday cake.
Check out Mackie the Stilt-walker, ride a water-slide, hop around in a Moon Bounce, and don't forget to try out the new climbing rock wall.
Evelyn Johnson, author of Lucy’s official bedtime storybooks, will also be on hand, signing copies of her highly acclaimed children’s books from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be tours offered through the World’s Largest Elephant, and birthday T-shirts will be sold, but only while supplies last.
Parking will be available at Union Avenue School playground, located on Vendome Avenue between Winchester and Monmouth Avenues. A complimentary shuttle, furnished by the Atlantic City Jitney Association, will be running every 15 minutes between the playground and Lucy during the event.
