Wilmington University plans to build a new campus along U.S. 202 to accommodate the school's rapid growth after purchasing a swath of undeveloped land in the Brandywine Hundred area.
The News Journal reports the career-oriented school's plans for the property call for three classroom buildings. Work on the first building is expected to begin in 18 months.
University President Jack Varsalona would not disclose the expansion's cost. But the project is believed to be the university's largest capital improvement program.
Wilmington enrolls 19,000 students and has been ranked as one of the fastest-growing nonprofit universities.
Irenee du Pont Jr., a member of the university's board, says the school is moving from being a modest institution that began in an abandoned motel and gas station to become a real university.
