Wells Fargo Moves Work From Philly to Charlotte

Wells Fargo says it will create about 80 jobs in Charlotte by moving some work from Philadelphia next year.

The Charlotte Observer reported that the San Francisco bank is eliminating about 120 jobs from its legal order processing group in Philadelphia.

The other jobs will go to Chandler, Arizona.

The unit produces customer bank records when requested by state and federal agencies, law firms and others.

Wells Fargo has about 22,000 employees in the Charlotte area. Bank spokesman Josh Dunn said all of the new hires are expected to be made in the next year.

Dunn says the company determined it could operate more efficiently in North Carolina and Arizona.

Charlotte has been the East Coast headquarters for Wells Fargo since it acquired Wachovia in 2008.
