Commission Approves Toll Hike at Tacony-Palmyra, Burlington Bristol Bridges

Motorists traveling across two local bridges will soon have to pay a higher toll.

The Burlington County Bridge Commission approved a toll increase on the Tacony-Palmyra and Burlington Bristol Bridges in New Jersey during a vote Wednesday night.

Toll costs will now increase from $2 to $3 for car drivers paying with E-ZPass and from $2 to $4 for car drivers, motorcyclists and light truck drivers paying in cash.

Bus drivers and RV drivers paying cash will see a $1.50 hike while six-axle truck drivers will see a $9 increase, regardless of whether or not they pay cash or use E-ZPass.

The Burlington County Bridge Commission says the hike is necessary to cover the cost of over $100 million in bridge improvements.

Commuters sounded off at two public hearings held earlier this week.

The new toll is expected to go into effect on September 15.

The neighboring Betsy Ross Bridge, which also allows drivers to cross the Delaware River into Pennsylvania, costs $5 for drivers.
