Several Students Fall Ill at School, School Evacuates

More than a dozen students and two adults fell ill at a southwestern Pennsylvania middle school on Friday, prompting an evacuation and the cancellation of classes as emergency officials searched for a cause.

Albert Gallatin North Middle School in Fayette County was evacuated shortly after 10 a.m. Friday after students and teachers were sickened in the library.

Uniontown Hospital said it treated 13 students and two teachers for respiratory problems.

"None of them are in serious condition," said hospital spokesman Josh Krysak. He said no one has been admitted.

The school district said on its Facebook page that Fayette County Emergency Management and a hazardous materials crew checked the building, but "all air quality readings came back within the normal range."

Students got the rest of the day off. The district said classes will resume Monday.
