Schuylkill River Trail Named Best Urban Trail in America

The Philadelphia region’s most famous trail is now receiving national recognition. The Schuylkill River Trail was named the best urban trail in the country in a recent online poll by USA Today.

The trail beat out other notable stretches in the U.S. including the MKT Nature and Fitness Trail in Columbia, Maryland and the Lakefront Trail in Chicago. A panel of travel and outdoor recreation experts nominated 20 American trails while USA Today readers voted for their favorite over a four-week span.

The 26.5 mile trail runs along the Schuylkill River from Center City in Philly through the Valley Forge National Historical Park in Montgomery County and ends in Phoenixville, Chester County. In April a new stretch of land connecting Phoenixville to the Schuylkill River Trail was opened, connecting the Borough to over 60 miles of finished trail.

A bike and pedestrian bridge is currently under construction in Valley Forge that will bring bikers, runners and walkers across the Schuylkill River.
