Deadly Bus Crash, Other Bus Wrecks

Multiple buses crashed this morning as freezing rain made area roads a mess and one crash turned deadly.

The driver of a sports utility vehicle died and 17 bus passengers were hurt  when a Route 403 New Jersey Transit bus heading towards Philadelphia collided with a car on W Branch Avenue near Cross Road in Pine Hill, N.J. around 7 a.m.

NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. says the bus operator told officials the GMC Envoy was approaching the bus from the other side of the road when it spun out of control and struck the front of the bus.

The 29-year-old SUV driver died and his passenger was seriously injured. No names have been released.

NJ Transit spokesman William Smith said that 17 of the 21 passengers on board suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The bus driver wasn't hurt.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. More than four hours later, W Branch Avenue remained closed.

Around the same time, a school bus collided with an SUV along a slippery Delaware road.

The crash at the intersection of the Washington Street Extension and Marsh Road (Route 3) in Wilmington, Del. left at least one person hurt.

The Brandywine School District bus collided with the SUV sending a person in the SUV to the hospital.

Witnesses on the scene said it appeared there were no kids on the bus at the time.

These were some of the numerous crashes and fender benders around the area as a wintry mix fell on roads including some others possibly involving buses.
