The body of victims killed in a crash near the Roosevelt Boulevard wound up about 50 yards from where the SUV crashed early Monday.
The sport utility vehicle slammed into a cell phone tower and overturned as it went down Adams Avenue in the cityβs Lawncrest section around 2:30 a.m., said Philadelphia Police.
The force of impact ejected both a man and the woman from the Jeep, said police. Their bodies landed up to 50 yards away and medics announced them dead on the scene.
The crash caused the closure of the southbound lanes of the Boulevard (US Route 1) from Adams to Whitaker avenues as well as Adams Avenue from Whitaker to the Boulevard for hours Monday morning. The roads reopened in time for the morning rush.
After the crash, family members of the victims -- who police didn't immediately identify -- rushed to the scene of the mangled wreckage, one woman screamed for her brother.
No word yet on an exact cause of the crash.
