Prosecutors to Use Drug Money for Employee Bonuses

Drug dealers will be helping to pay for bonuses for members of the district's attorney's office in Berks County.

County commissioners on Thursday authorized the use of drug forfeiture money for the bonuses.

Officials say close to $50,000 will be distributed equally among 22 employees of the DA's office.

District Attorney John Adams says it's a way to support his staff for the work they are doing prosecuting drug cases.

Drug forfeiture money has also been used for aiding police departments and paying overtime to the district attorney's staff for drug investigations and prosecutions.

The Mercury of Pottstown reports the DA hopes that going forward, some drug forfeiture money can be used every year for bonuses.
