Police Use Stun Gun to Subdue Man Brandishing Knife

Woodbridge police used an electrical type of stun gun to subdue a man who held a knife against his neck and urged them to shoot him.

Police say the man had cut himself several times on the forearm and threatened to harm himself as Sgt. Randal Aptaker approached him on Tuesday.

Police Director Robert Hubner tells the Home News Tribune (http://mycj.co/15jW2bW) Aptaker pointed the conductive energy device at the man, discharged it and the man dropped the knife.

He was handcuffed after a brief struggle and taken to a hospital.

Hubner says a tragedy was averted because of proper use of the device.
