Prosecutor in Pennsylvania Doctor's Cyanide Trial Assaulted: Police

A popular Pittsburgh restaurant owner has been jailed on charges he assaulted his girlfriend, the lead prosecutor in a homicide trial of a medical researcher accused of poisoning his physician wife with cyanide.

A spokesman for the Allegheny County district attorney's office says he doubts the charges against 48-year-old Raymond Burg will delay the trial of Dr. Robert Ferrante, which begins with jury selection Tuesday.

Burg is charged with assaulting Assistant District Attorney Lisa Pellegrini who told police Burg was her "intimate partner" after the Friday night incident.

That's when police say Burg refused to let Pellegrini out of his car and slammed her head into the car's dashboard after an argument.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Burg, who remained jailed Monday. He owns Burg's in the Burgh, a well-known downtown restaurant.
