Man Killed in Crash With Brother was Driving Drunk: Police

Authorities say a man who died with his brother after crashing into a Philadelphia-area pond was driving drunk at the time of the accident.

Police say 52-year-old Thomas McAleer, of Berwyn, had a blood-alcohol content of .398 percent.

The crash happened Oct. 2 in Tredyffrin Township in Chester County. Police said the northbound car went off the road during rainy weather, flipped on its roof and landed in a pond in the Daylesford section of the township.

McAleer and his brother, 54-year-old Michael McAleer, were pronounced dead at Paoli Hospital. Officials said the two drowned.

Tredyffrin Township police spokesman Sgt. Todd Bereda says Thomas McAleer's alcohol levels were "extremely high." The legal BAC limit for driving in Pennsylvania is .08.
