Photographer for Children's Program Faces Child Pornography Charges

A photographer for a Philadelphia radio station's popular children's program is facing federal child pornography charges.

The Philadelphia Inquirer
reports that 57-year-old Mark Wilkens was arrested Friday on charges of manufacturing and attempting to manufacture child pornography.

Wilkens is a longtime volunteer photographer for radio station WXPN-FM's award-winning Kids Corner program.

Prosecutors say he tried to capture sexually explicit images of children between the ages of 2 and 10 while they were participating in events at the Franklin Institute and other places.

A radio station spokesman says staff members are appalled by the allegations and are working with police. Authorities say Wilkens will remain in federal custody pending a court hearing next week.

Wilkens' lawyer, John Flannery, says it's early in the process and declined to comment further.
