Philly Man Faces Life Sentence Following Murder Conviction

A Philadelphia man faces a mandatory life sentence following his first-degree murder conviction in a shooting death in northeastern Pennsylvania last year.

The Williamsport Sun-Gazette reports that Lycoming County jurors deliberated for about four hours before convicting 23-year-old Tyrell Boyd in the July 2013 slaying of 21-year-old Ansari Wilson in Williamsport.

Defense attorney Jeff Rowe argued that his client fired in self-defense because he saw the other man raising a gun in his direction.

Assistant District Attorney Melissa Kalaus said Boyd was angry at Wilson and entered the house with gun in hand before he even saw the victim.

As he was being escorted from the courtroom Friday, a member of the victim's family told Boyd to "have a nice life." He responded "Of course, why wouldn't I?"
