A nearly two-mile stretch of parking spots along Broad Street in South Philadelphia will be taken out of service for the forthcoming Democratic National Convention.
The mayor's office announced Friday that no parking will be allowed in the thoroughfare's median during the week of the convention.
City officials say having the median free will make it safer for protesters who are expected to march in the street and the police monitoring them.
It's technically illegal to park in the median, but the city rarely enforces it save for special events like parades and snowstorms. [[387262691, C]]
Parking along the sidewalks will still be allowed.
The restrictions went into effect early Sunday, July 24 and will last through Friday, July 29.
