Philadelphia Neighborhood Comes Together to Spread Holiday Cheer

Though Philadelphia has countless extravagant light displays available to the public during the holiday season, one neighborhood comes together every year to bring a little extra cheer to their community.

For years, residents of the Parkwood neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia have put together a beautiful Christmas lights display at the center of their street. Every December, residents gather and work tirelessly to produce a Christmas spectacle.

Resident Melissa Reichenbach has lived in the neighborhood for 13 years, and said the tradition had been going since long before she moved in. She told NBC10 that last year's setup was uncharacteristically lackluster, and annual visitors to the neighborhood were "annoyed" when they noticed the absence of dΓ©cor.

This year, Reichenbach took it upon herself to rally the neighbors and make 2015 a year for the books.

She got everyone on the street to contribute $20 to the cause, which would go toward new decorations and supplies for the neighborhood. The men of Parkwood, including Reichenbach's electrician husband, worked all day and night to make this year's display one to remember.

Spectators can be seen driving through the neighborhood at all hours of the day, coming from far and wide to catch a glimpse of the lights in all their glory.
