Philadelphia Couple Handcuff Autistic Man To Futon, Leave Him Home Alone: Police

Police say two Philadelphia residents are accused of handcuffing a 28-year-old autistic man at an Overbrook house.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports 26-year-old Latrice Graves and 33-year-old Phillip Martin were charged Monday with unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and conspiracy.

Officers responded to an incident at a nearby corner store on the 6500 block of Lebanon Avenue involving the victim when the store's owner told them about seeing the man bound before.

Police say they executed a search warrant Saturday and found the family's house in disarray. Lt. John Walker says the two would handcuff the man to a futon and leave.

Walker says the house smelled of urine and had used diapers in the basement.

The victim was treated at Lankenau Medical Center and police say they have contacted state health officials to arrange for his care.
