The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has fined an energy company $95,000 for six industrial waste spills during the construction of a pipeline in western Pennsylvania.
According to a consent agreement, Sinking Spring-based Sunoco Logistics allowed sediment-laden runoff from locations along the Mariner East pipeline to discharge into waters in Washington, Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.
The Observer-Reporter reports the document says the company should have taken precautionary measures as it was building the 53-mile pipeline last year.
A DEP spokesman says the fine will be put into programs managed by the state's Clean Water Fund.
One spill resulted in the release of more than 5,000 gallons of industrial waste into Froman Run in Union Township.
Sunoco had no comment.
