Tourism and travel industry numbers in Philadelphia are looking up, as Visit Philadelphia's annual report released Wednesday highlights the $10 billion in economic impact brought to the city in 2013.
“Greater Philadelphia’s travel industry enhances the quality of life for residents,” said Meryl Levitz, president and CEO of Visit Philadelphia in a statement. “Visitor spending generates taxes for our local and state government, supports jobs for locals and results in destination attractors.”
Thirty-nine million day and overnight visitors accounted for the $10 billion in economic impact – that’s $27.5 million per day and a 1.85 percent increase from 2012, supporting 90,261 full-time regional jobs and generating $636 million in state and local taxes, according to the report.
Leisure tourism accounted for most of the region’s visits; of the 39 million visitors, 34.4 million visited the region for leisure purposes, the report says. Read more about this story on PBJ.com.
