Owners of Matt & Marie's Italian Sandwich Shop to Open New Concept

The duo behind Matt & Marie's, a Philadelphia-based Italian sandwich concept, will open a fourth restaurant concept — and their third this year alone — right across the street from their original restaurant.

Matt Sapolsky and Marie Capp in June 2014 opened the first outpost of Matt & Marie's near Logan Square, followed by two more locations in Rittenhouse Square and Washington Square West, which both opened this year.

Sapolsky and Capp's newest venture — called Kayu — will open Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 1717 Arch St., just across the street from their first outpost near 18th and Arch streets. They are taking over the space vacated by Tower Bistro.

The 1,681-square-foot fast-casual restaurant, which focuses on soups and salads, will be open Monday through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kayu's menu boasts not only ready-to-go selections, but focuses on build-your-own soups and salads with superfoods and homemade toppings at the core, including chickpeas, Israeli couscous, flaxseeds and more. There will also be build-your-own steel-cut oatmeal and Greek yogurt.
