The streets near Ocean Avenue and 8th Street in Ocean City are closed while engineers inspect the former Hotel Bellevue.
The Ocean City Fire Department and Police Department responded to the abandoned hotel on Sunday after reports that the hotel appeared to be showing signs of structural problems. Officials say further investigation revealed a large volume of water was sitting on the roof, causing stress from the weight of the water on the "structural elements of the building below."

The Fire Department used portable pumps to remove much of the water.
On Monday, the City Code Enforcement Officials and City Engineer inspected the property. Officials say an Unsafe Structure Notice was forwarded to representatives of the owner who will be required to take measures to make the structure safe to the satisfaction of the local Construction Official.
No one was inside the building during the inspection. It is currently closed.
