Christie vs. Lonegan: Which Republican Will Take It?

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- A hard-fought Republican contest between a crime-busting former U.S. Attorney and a conservative former North Jersey mayor tops the list of key races to be decided in Tuesday's New Jersey primary election.

Former federal prosecutor Chris Christie and ex-Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan have been battering each other for weeks over who is better suited to try to wrest the Statehouse from Democrat Jon Corzine in the fall general election.

GOP Assemblyman Rick Merkt has trailed those two in polls.

Corzine faces token opposition in the Democratic primary.

There are also mayoral primaries in communities including Camden, Atlantic City and Edison and several contested state Assembly races.

  Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
