New Jersey State Police mourned the loss of one of the force’s beloved police horses.
Sprout, a 16-year veteran of the state police, died Tuesday, said state police. Sprout was 22 years old.
“Sprout delighted both children and adults alike at class graduations, picnics, and community events,” said a post to the state police Facebook page. [[372215712, C]]
“In times of loss, he could be seen in the cemetery off in the distance as the riderless horse, honoring our fallen troopers….”
Lt. Ted Schaffer and his family owned and cared for Sprout who state police called part of the “family” that “will be sorely missed by all of us.”
