The nation's oldest operating nuclear plant has resumed operations after it was taken offline temporarily so crews could inspect safety equipment and make repairs.
The Oyster Creek plant in Lacey Township, Ocean County, New Jersey resumed full operations on Thursday.
Operators took the reactor off line on July 7 to inspect safety equipment in the drywall after tests suggested a potential problem with components that control reactor pressure.
Plant officials say five relief valve actuators were replaced even though tests showed they would have functioned. They also worked on components that help control vacuum inside the plant's condenser system.
Oyster Creek generates enough electricity to power roughly all the homes in Monmouth and Ocean counties combined.
Oyster Creek is due to shut down by the end of 2019. It went online in 1969.
