Philadelphia Police took a teenager into custody after a man was shot in the head while driving late Wednesday night.
The victim, who appears to be in his 20s, fought for his life in critical condition at Aria-Torresdale Hospital after being shot as he drove along Meridian Street near Torresdale Avenue in the city’s Holmesburg section around 9:30 p.m.
After being shot, the driver – who had no identification on him – crashed into some parked cars, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.
“When police and medics arrived on location they found a Mercury Sable with a driver who appeared to be shot one time in his head,” said Small.
A witness told police he witnessed the shooting and saw the shooter run into the rear of a home along neighboring Lansing Street, said Small.
The shooting suspect is 17 years old, said Small. Investigators planned to search the home where the boy was found.
“It appears that the bullet entered the rear driver-side door window – breaking the window – then striking our victim in the head,” said Small.
