Mansfield University plans to cut up to 29 full-time faculty positions and 25 administrative jobs due to a projected $14.3 million shortfall over the next two years.
The school says in a release Thursday that it has had enrollment declines over the last three years, and reduced state support.
Discussions with the affected faculty and staff who could lose jobs will take place in the days ahead.
The school is located about 130 miles north of Harrisburg, near the New York border.
Officials say the enrollment decline is a reflection of the shrinking number of high school graduates in northern Pennsylvania and the southern tier of New York.
They expect the next two years to be among the most challenging in Mansfield's 156-year history.
