Man Found Dead in Driveway May Have Been Ambushed, Police Say

The man was found partially underneath the rear of his car -- a possible sign that he tried to hide from the killer, police said

A man who was found dead in his own driveway with at least one gunshot wound to the head may have been ambushed, Philadelphia police said.

The 36-year-old man was killed as he was getting home from work just after 12:30 a.m. Friday, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. His wife heard the gunshots and found him in the rear driveway of their home on the 4700 block of Hartel Avenue, in the city's Holmesburg section.

The gunman fired at least six shots, execution-style, from a semiautomatic weapon as the victim's wife and a little girl were inside the home, just a few feet away, the chief inspector said.

The man was found partially underneath the rear of his car -- a possible sign that he tried to hide from the killer -- with his wallet and keys still at his side, Small said.

Police were still looking for a possible motive and reviewing surveillance video from surrounding homes as they tried to find the killer.
