Personal Trainer “Irrational” Before Disappearance

Gerald Christopher's girlfriend says his behavior changed right before he went missing

Personal trainer Gerald Christopher was acting "irrational" the day before he went missing. That was two weeks ago and no one has seen him since.

"He was acting paranoid," his girlfriend, Roxy Merat said. "He was saying that people were following him and that he was in danger."

Christopher, 45, and Roxy run a private gym in Wayne called Deep Cuts Fit. His behavior changed about 24 hours before he disappeared, Merat said.

"He said that some people were after him, that it was the end of the world; something big was going to happen," Merat said. "So he was irrational."

Family and friends set up a Facebook page, Help Find Chris, and posted the following information:

"Last seen in Radnor Township between midnight & 5AM on Wednesday June 1, 2011. Possibly on a bicycle or on foot; wearing athletic clothing; black sneakers with yellow stripe. Tribal tattoo on right bicep."

His girlfriend says the night before he disappeared, they went to bed early and when she woke up, he was gone.

Police say Christopher left his personal belongings behind and that they didn't interpret his behavior to be anything significant enough to require emergency psychiatric care.

"We do believe he's out there," said Radnor Police Sgt. Andy Block. "There is no evidence at this point, nor has there been throughout the course of the investigation, thus far, of any type of foul play being involved."

Police are searching his computer and going through cell phone records for clues. Merat said she just needs to know he's okay.

"I want him to know that he's 100-percent safe, that he has nothing to fear, and he doesn't need to come back if he doesn't want to, but we just need to know that he's alright," Merat said.
