Kathleen Kane Responds to Senate Subpoena

Hours after her spokesman said Pennsylvania's attorney general would ignore a subpoena from a state Senate committee investigating her, she's responded with a letter and attachments.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane on Friday told the panel, which could recommend that the Legislature try to remove her from office, that she still doesn't think it has authority.

But she says she decided to respond anyway "to maintain the respect and decorum of our government."

The state Supreme Court put Kane under temporary, indefinite suspension as a lawyer as she fights criminal charges for allegedly leaking secret grand jury material to a reporter and lying about it.

Kane says there's nothing in state law to prevent her from delegating duties that she can't perform to fully licensed lawyers in her agency.
