Kim Pawlowski buried her husband John with a sonogram of the baby she was carrying. Thursday night, the fallen officer's widow gave birth to their little boy.
John Pawlowski, Jr. was born at Abington Hospital. He weighed in at 6-pounds-11 ounces.
The baby's father was killed in the line of duty in the city's Logan section on February 13. A man opened fire on Pawlowski and his partner when they responded to a cab driver's call for help. The cabbie had called saying a man tried to rob him and was threatening to shoot him.
Pawlowski, 25, was the seventh Philadelphia officer killed in the line of duty in less than three years. He was a newlywed at the time and his wife, Kim, was four months pregnant.
At the funeral, Pawlowski's sister, Lauren shared memories of the couple's love for each other. She said when Pawlowski and Kimmy -- who shared their first kiss in fifth grade -- found out they were going to be parents, the officer was "ecstatic" and even began shopping for baby clothes.
Pawlowski grew up with policing in his blood. His brother Robert works in the radio room and his father, John Sr., retired as a lieutenant with the Special Victims Unit. John had been on the force for five years.
