Pennsylvania public school districts would be required to post "In God We Trust" in every school building under legislation that recently advanced in the state House of Representatives.
The bill sponsored by Allegheny County Rep. Rick Saccone passed the House Education Committee on Wednesday by a 14-to-9 vote.
The National Motto Display Act, as it is titled, credits a 19th century Pennsylvania governor for putting the term on coins while serving as director of the U.S. Mint.
The bill says schools can post it by using a mounted plaque, student artwork or some other form.
All but one Democrat voted against the legislation, and all but one Republican was for it.
The lone dissenting vote on the Republican side came from Bucks County Rep. Bernie O'Neill who represents towns like Warminster, Buckingham Township and New Hope.
Rep. James Clay, of Philadelphia, was the only Democrat on the committee to cast an aye vote.
