Hero's Welcome Escorts Injured in I-95 Motorcycle Crash

Three people are in the hospital after a motorcycle accident on I-95.

Three men are in the hospital after a motorcycle accident on I-95.

It happened around 4:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 in Southwest Philadelphia.

Police say the three men were part of the local A Hero's Welcome program. They were part of a pack of 40 bikes trailing a police escort, six more riders and the family of Sergeant Michael Wexler, a soldier returning to his home in Jamison, Pa.

As the motorcade entered I-95 North from Philly International, investigators say the pack of 40 riders had trouble merging with traffic and the three riders lost control.

One rider struck a median and suffered a concussion. A second rider fell and broke fingers on his hand. Finally, a third rider skidded and suffered road rash.

All three men were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The two riders who suffered lesser injuries were treated and released while the rider who suffered a concussion remains in the hospital. All three victims were wearing helmets, according to A Hero's Welcome.
